OMAFRA proposes changes to Agricultural Tile Drainage Installation Act

February 17, 2021  By Bree Rody

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) has proposed an amendment to RRO 1990, reg. 18 under the Agricultural Tile Drainage Installation Act (ATDIA). The act serves as a regulator for all aspects of agricultural drainage installation.

The proposed changes would see all fees of $50 or less removed.

This includes the operator license fee, which costs $50 every three years; a fee for the operator to change or upgrade their license class ($5 upon renewal); the operator examination fee ($5); the machine license fee ($50); the machine license transfer fee ($5); and the machine license fee for machines used for demonstration purposes only ($10).

The $250 business license fee would remain. Those licenses expire annually on March 31.

The estimated savings for businesses are calculated at $9,000 per year. Comments on the file are due by March 8.
