USDA’s Mark Williams named finalist for national medal for water quality research
May 20, 2022 By Drainage Contractor
USDA scientist Mark Williams has been named a finalist for the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal in recognition of his research on water quality and pollutants from agricultural runoff.
Williams, an agricultural engineer based in Indiana, studies the movement of nitrogen and phosphorus through field drainage systems. His areas of focus include conservation practices to prevent the escape of nutrients in runoff. He’s focused his expertise in field and watershed hydrology, as well as nutrient movement to understand where, when and how much N and P can pass through tile systems.
