The Bay’s Pollution Diet: Is it working?

The Bay Journal has released a four part series looking into the state-federal Chesapeake Bay Program and its progress to meet its 2025 clean up goals that will improve water quality and reduce nutrient runoff.

The series looks into the current progress of the “pollution diet,” new nutrient reduction goals developed through updated science, data and computer modelling, and the impact Pennsylvania – the state furthest off track – has on Cheapeake’s restoration goals. December 2018 will mark the 35th anniversary of the original promise to protect the water quality of Chesapeake Bay, and while environmental improvements have been observed, the clean up project will take “decades.” However, the slow and steady progress producing better water quality can kick-start other biological and chemical processes that lead to further improvements. | READ MORE
