Ontario updates Drainage Act to reduce red tape

July 9, 2021  By Bree Rody

The Ontario government has made another step to reduce burdens on drainage contractors and landowners. The government has gone through with its previously stated intent to amend the Drainage Act, which is mainly aimed at reducing regulatory burdens and streamlining approvals for farmers, landowners and municipalities.

It’s part of an overall goal to save parties both time and money, with an intent to “encourage the development of more small-scale green infrastructure projects that provide environmental benefits.” Earlier this month the government also eliminated fees of $50 and under for drainage contractors, which applies to actives such as license renewal fees.
