Municipalities push province of Saskatchewan to develop new wetland policy

The Municipalities of Saskatchewan recently passed a resolution to lobby the Provincial Government to develop a wetlands policy similar to those of its neighbours on either side, Alberta and Manitoba.
Currently, Saskatchewan is the only province in Canada without a wetlands policy.
Some of those advocating for the implementation of a policy have named farmland drainage as a contributing factor in wetland loss.
Although in 2015 the Water Security Agency began implementing a strategy requiring the approval of drainage projects, a 2018 adit showed more than two million acres of land with unapproved drainage works. | READ MORE
