Farmers continue to invest in tile despite tough finances

Tile can drastically change the productivity of a field—and farmers are taking note. According to an Illinois FarmDoc report, tiled acres increased 77 percent in the 48 states with tiling from the 2012 Census to the 2017 Census of Agriculture.

Iowa and Minnesota showed the greatest gains in tiling. Iowa increased tiling by five percentage points, or 1.5 million acres and Minnesota increased by 7.2 percentage points, or 1.6 million acres. The investment in tiles comes at a time when farm prices are low, trade is uncertain, and weather is wild. The wet weather in 2019 may further increase the steady investment in tile. | READ MORE
