In memory of Sybren De Boer

July 3, 2014, Ontario – Sybren De Boer, founder of Syfilco Ltd., passed away on June 8 in his 85th year.

Born in the Netherlands, De Boer immigrated to Stouffville, ON, in 1949 with his parents and siblings. He became the first employee of Big “O” Drain Tile in 1967, functioning as plant manager for a new plastic corrugated pipe extrusion plant being built in Hensall, ON. In 1979, De Boer founded Syfilco Ltd. in Exeter to produce a knitted tubular drainage filter. De Boer retired in 1993, leaving the operations of his family owned company to three of his four children. He was an entrepreneur throughout all of his endeavours and continued to keenly follow industry trends.
