ICC’s constructed wetland expected to hold a slew of benefits

A constructed wetland is being built on the Illinois Central College (ICC) East Peoria campus to remove nitrates found in the runoff water from 50 acres of farmland on campus.

ICC has been participating in water-quality research for about four years now. The college added demonstration fields to the campus and more recently installed a bioreactor to collect water-quality data and nutrient levels draining from the fields. This wetland structure is another step in the research process and will allow researchers to track the water at each stage of the system.

ICC could be the first known college to have all three: a demonstration farm, bioreactor and wetland, on the same drainage system. | READ MORE
