Florida ranchers worried about losing farm over drainage-tax increase

When Carol Platt received her 2018 tax assessments, she thought there was some mistake.
The assessment from the Fellsmere Water Control District for the 800 acres she and her husband, Cody, manage was $15,200 more than the previous year. It was no mistake.
In May, the district’s three-member board of supervisors unanimously raised the 2018 assessment for drainage management in that area from $10 per acre to $29 per acre. | READ MORE
