P removal structure install field day

Tuesday 13 August 2019
Location: Defiance, OH
The USDA-ARS plans to install a tile drain P-removal structure near Defiance, OH. The field day is an informal event, open to anyone interested in learning more. Chad Penn, who helped design the system, will be on-site explaining what is happening and the design process behind the unit. Timing is unpredictable based on ground conditions, but over the two-day installation August 13 is the best day for observation. This event will be cancelled if weather conditions are not favourable for installation.

"This will be the first field-scale Fe oxide-based P removal structure for handling high flow rates and P loads. We designed it so that we can re-generate the PSM (i.e. Fe oxides) in-situ after they become spent. We are using the lowest cost manufactured PSM that we could find. Similar units will be installed later with Fe oxide by-products that are only a fraction of the cost of this particular manufactured media." - Chad Penn

Location: Highland Township Ohio 41.168778, -84.228321, West side of the road, north side of the ditch.
