Check it out: How a Northern Ireland farmer deals with tile tangles

January 7, 2021  By Bree Rody

Tangles can be one of the most awkward parts of applying drainage tile.

But one farmer in Northern Island has taken a DIY approach to solving this issue by creating a custom tool that allowed him to lay tile without the tangles. Now, he’s taking it national.

Easi-Reel is designed for a “one-man operation” and can handle coils of up to 72 feet. Its design allows users to load the coil upright, then lay it down on a flexible turntable that allows the tile to be continuously fed through as it moves along.

Donal O’Donovan of Coleraine, Northern Ireland, originally created the Easi-Reel for himself, but after word of his creation got around, requests came pouring in – and he soon created about 30 in half a year.

Now, Easi-Reel has its own site and is ready to serve drainage contractors in the area. So far, delivery is only to other parts of the U.K. as well as Ireland.
