Nov. 17, 2014, West Lafeyette, IN – Dr. Indrajett Chaubey of Purdue University has received the 2014 Soil and Water Engineering Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

Chaubey heads up the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences and is a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue. The ASABE award, sponsored by Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS), recognizes Chaubey’s accomplishments and contributions to improve watershed management.

“We are thrilled to recognize the contributions of Professor Chaubey, one of the world’s leading experts on water quality issues and watershed management,” said Bob Klein, executive vice-president of customer relations at ADS. “In addition to his many accomplishments as a dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Chaubey‘s research and development projects have influenced water management decisions in communities around the world.”

The prestigious ADS Soil and Water Engineering Award, which has been sponsored by Hancor/ADS since 1966, is given annually in recognition of noteworthy contributions to the advancement of soil and water engineering in teaching, research, planning, design construction, management or materials development.

Dr. Chaubey was recognized for his leadership of national and international efforts to quantify how land use changes due to recent demand for biofuel production, agricultural intensification, and urbanization will impact water availability, water quality, and ecosystem services. In addition to the ADS award, Dr. Chaubey is also the recipient of the ASABE’s New Holland Young Researcher award. He has been published extensively on the critical topic of water management, and has earned multiple faculty and research awards from both Purdue and the University of Arkansas.

“We have had the privilege of sponsoring this ASABE award, and recognizing the outstanding contributions to the water management field for nearly 50 years,” Klein said. “As a global leader in water management solutions, ADS applauds Dr. Chaubey for his extensive work on these critically important issues.”
