One Virginia county will study drainage issues following a rain-heavy February.
Northampton County saw five inches more total rain than average in February, with nearly three-quarters of the month having days of rainfall. The county is urging landowners to ensure ditches on their properties are flowing properly.
In the meantime, the County is in talks with the state Department of Transportation about ditch maintenance and drainage engineering. The stakeholders will work together to identify drainage priorities. It will also look at information gleaned from the county’s extension office’s study several years ago.
